CLEANING

All styles of hearing aid require some basic maintenance.

On a daily basis the two most common causes of “dead” hearing aids are flat batteries and wax blockages. Both problems are easily solved without the need for costly repairs. This brochure is designed to give you some basic instruction in maintaining a hearing aid in good working order.

Please keep in mind that if these simple procedures do not work you must seek professional help, your Hearing Aid Specialist has the necessary talents to make these repairs.

THE INS AND OUTS OF HEARING AIDS

For a hearing aid to work effectively the sound must be able to get into the hearing aid. The microphone is normally placed on the faceplate of the aid, that is the part you can see when its in your ear.

This opening can occasionally become covered with dirt and/or wax. When the battery door is opened the microphone is normally cleaned.

This is the sound outlet of the hearing aid, this is the part where the sound must come out !! If it is blocked no sound comes out of the hearing aid, it is a fairly fine tube and is the area that is most commonly blocked with wax.

Wax cleaning tools for hearing aids come in several styles. The one common thing with them is that they have to be used to work !!!!

Keep in mind that before you clean the aid, just check that its not a flat battery causing your “dead” hearing aid !!!!

Be gentle, it is a wax cleaner you are using...not a shovel !!

Use the brush to wipe the faceplate of the hearing aid. Then use the wire wax loop on the sound outlet. Push the wax loop into the sound outlet until it stops, then rotate it three times and pull straight out…..DO NOT DIG WITH IT ! Then wipe the hearing aid with a clean dry tissue.
